Enid, OK — Funeral services for Joan Adelman, 88, of Oklahoma City, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church, 2400 W. Hefner in Oklahoma City with a graveside service at 3 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Enid. A memorial service will be Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Canterbury Chapel, 1404 N.W. 122nd, Oklahoma City. Arrangements are by Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
She was born July 18, 1921, in Lindsay and grew up in Pauls Val-ley and Lindsay and died Thurs-day, Nov. 19, 2009, in Okla-homa City. She was a graduate of Wesley Nursing School. She married Simpson Allan Bull and while he was serving as a Marine pilot in World War II, she served as a Navy nurse in California. He was killed in action in the South Pacific in 1945 and she returned to Oklahoma City.
She married Dr. Frank L. Adelman, and after living in Topeka, Kan., Vinita and Fort Supply, they settled in Enid in 1956. After he retired from medical practice, they moved to Oklahoma City. While in Enid she was active in St. Francis and St. Gregory’s Altar Society and Study Club, Garfield County Medical Auxiliary, Chapter FA PEO, Hospice and Our Daily Bread. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and worked in her husband’s medical practice for many years. She also served as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son and one brother.
Survivors include her children, Al Adelman of Chester, Md., Chris Adelman of Cleveland, Ohio, Carolyn Adelman Hicks of Dallas, Hal Adelman of Kerrville, Texas, Mike Adelman of Yukon; Becky VanPool of Oklahoma City and Alice Adelman Rose of Bedmin-ster, N.J.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
