The funeral for Emet Leroy “Deke” Gaston, 87, of Fort Supply, will be 10:30 a.m. today, Nov. 16, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Fort Supply. The Revs. Ken McKinley and Bill Tindell will officiate. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Wood-ward. Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home, Woodward.
He was born Oct. 28, 1922, in Harper County to Emet and Ethel Husk Gaston and died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Newman Memorial Hospital, Shat-tuck.
He was a 1941 graduate of Fort Supply High School. He served in the Navy during World War II as a radar technician on the USS Nassau and the USS Tarawa.
Following his honorable discharge, he married Betty Gillenwaters Feb. 13, 1947. They made their home in Fort Supply, where they operated Gaston Oil Co. for more than 30 years. They also had service stations in Buffalo and Fort Supply. He continued to farm following retirement. She died Aug. 14, 1996.
He married Bonita Dunnihoo Dec. 1, 2000, in Lipscomb, Texas. They made their home in Fort Supply, where they were members of the Senior Citizens Center.
He also was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, Historic Fort Supply Foundation, Fort Supply Fire Department, Lions Club and Fort Supply Men’s Club. He served three terms as mayor of Fort Supply.
Surviving are his wife, Bonita, of the home; two daughters, Dr. Jeanette Zamberlin of Edmond and Ralinda Wilson of Laverne; one sister, Cleta Allen of Dallas; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Betty, he was preceded in death by one son, four sisters and one stepgrandson.
