Enid, OK — The funeral for George Lawson McKeaigg, 95, of Enid, formerly of Altus, will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel, Altus. Kent McKeaigg will officiate. Private family burial will be held prior to the service in Altus Cemetery. Local arrangements are by Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. He will lie in state today at Brown-Cummings and then Tuesday and Wednesday at Lowell-Tims.
He was born April 24, 1914, in Putnam to Oscar C. and Augusta Alice Lawson McKeaigg and died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Golden Oaks Nursing Home.
He completed school in Clinton and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
He married Emma E. Scarce March 7, 1936, in Arapaho. He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for Cities Service Oil Co. until 1940. He moved to Altus in 1941. He worked as director of Farmers Home Administration Loan Pro-gram for more than 30 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Altus, since 1941, where he was chairman of the deacons, a deacon and served on the church finance committee. He was a member of Altus Rotary Club.
Surviving are one son, Ronald L. McKeaigg of Enid; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, one son, two brothers and three sisters.
