The funeral for Vernal Laveran “Pitch” Pitcher, 75, will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Canton First Baptist Church. Harold Hook, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Woodward. Arrange-ments are by Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.

He was born March 18, 1934, in Woodward to Roy and Nannie Mae Knox Pitcher and died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at his home.

He graduated from Tangier High School in 1952. He married Mary Charlene Pflum Sept. 19, 1954, in Woodward. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 33 years as a clerk. He was a member of Canton First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Surviving are his wife, Charlene, of the home; two sons, Rob Roy Pitcher and Kirk Alan Pitcher, both of Amarillo, Texas; one daughter, Tina Louise Kanatzar of Topeka, Kan.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Canton First Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
