Rev. Cash Walter Russell Sr.

Enid, OK — The funeral for the Rev. Cash Walter Russell Sr., 72, of Inglewood, Calif., will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at Miracle Baptist Church, Los Ang-eles. Burial will be in Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood. Arrangements are by Simpson Family Mortuary, Inglewood.

He was born Feb. 4, 1937, in Enid to Cash Lee and Florence Mae Russell and died Saturday, June 27, 2009.

He attended Booker T. Washington School. He moved with his family to west Los Angeles in August 1947, where he attended Centennial High School and Compton Junior College.

He married Anna Katherine Smith in 1956. He joined New Hope Baptist Church in 1961 and then Miracle Baptist Church in 1981. In 1998, he was ordained and served as associate minister at Miracle Baptist Church, where he also was on the deacon board, served as president of the usher board, assistant treasurer and assistant superintendent of the Sunday school department.

He began his career with the city of Los Angeles in 1970, being promoted through several positions over the next 25 years. He retired in 1995 as supervisor of safety and training in the public works department. He moved back to Enid, where he joined Grayson Baptist Church, serving as associate minister and developer of the men’s outreach. He also served as an Enid school board member. They returned to California in 1999. He was later diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Surviving are his wife, Anna; six children, Cash Jr., Daryl, Sylvia, Gregory, Lawrence Keith and Eugene; two sisters, Barbara and Marcia; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
