Virginia Kinney

The funeral for Virginia Mae Goss Kinney, 84, of Aline, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at United Methodist Church, Aline. The Rev. Scott Heusel will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, southwest of Aline. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena. Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and prior to service at the church.

She was born Sept. 21, 1924, west of Aline to Frank A. and Mollie Young Goss and died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Great Plains Care Center, Helena.

She attended school in Boiling Springs and graduated from Aline High School in 1942. Following graduation, she moved to Gary, Ind., where she worked in an attorney’s office.

She married William F. Kinney Dec. 31, 1942, in Enid. They moved to Centerville, Miss., then to Louisiana, then to Paris, Texas. She moved back to Aline while her husband was stationed overseas.

They made their home in Cherokee, where she worked at Cherokee Hospital. In 1950, they moved to Okarche, where they operated Kinney’s Café. In 1954, they moved to Wichita, Kan., where she worked for more than 14 years at Wesley Hospital. In 1968, they moved to Everett, Wash., where she worked at the Catholic hospital. In 1974, she moved to Fall River, Mass., where she did office management for emergency room physicians until 1989, when she retired and returned to Washington.

In 1992, they moved back to Aline, where she was president of Aline Chamber, member of Aline Senior Center as well as an original board member, member of Aline United Methodist Church and Germans from Russia.

Surviving are two brothers, Bill Goss and Frank Goss, both of Aline; three sisters, Dorthy Stallings of Alva, Mary Peters of Seiling and Georgie Haltom of Enid; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, two sons and two sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Aline Senior Citizens Center or Aline United Methodist Church.
