Enid,OK — The funeral for Earl Bierig, 80, of Okeene, will be 2 p.m. today, Dec. 5, 2008, at Okeene United Methodist Church. The Rev. George Rowe, Rex Yoder and Jay Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Okeene. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. today at the funeral home and at the church before the service.

He was born Sept. 7, 1928, in Isabella to Jake and Leah Jester Bierig and died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Okeene Hospital, Okeene.

After high school he served in the Army. He married Eddie Prouty June 12, 1949, in Hennessey. He worked as a rural mail carrier 35 years and sprayed trees 45 years. He was a member of Okeene United Methodist Church. He served as the VFW commander, was a member of the Jaycees, past president of the Quarterback Club, a little league coach, St. Mary’s School basketball coach, served on the city council for 13 years, mayor of Okeene two years and Golf Club president.

Surviving are his wife, Eddie of Okeene; five children, Donna Jones of Tahlequah, Debbie Harder of Oklahoma City, Dorothy Yoder of Thomas, Dale Douglas of Oklahoma City and Dixie Arnold of Okeene; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers, three sisters and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to American Cancer Society.
