Landon 'Lanny' Earl Covalt

Enid,OK — The funeral for Landon “Lanny” Earl Covalt, 68, of Lamont, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at First Christian Church, Lamont. The Rev. Jeff McReynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Broadwater, Neb. Local arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. Nebraska services will be under the direction of Joliffe Funeral Home, Bridgeport, Neb.

He was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Alliance, Neb., to Lewis J. and Katherine Waggoner Covalt and died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Servant Living Center, Medford, where he had lived for the past five years.

He attended a one-room school in rural Morrill County, Neb., through the eighth grade, then graduated in 1958 from Curtis High School at the Agriculture Boarding School affiliated with the University of Nebraska in Curtis, Neb. Following graduation he returned to the family ranch in Morrill County where he worked with his father and brother until 1995 when he retired due to ill health and moved to Oklahoma with his wife. He was a member of First Christian Church of Lamont. He raised cattle, horses and buffalo and held buffalo hunts on his ranch.

Surviving are his wife, Edna Irene, of Lamont; four children, Ryan Covalt of Sheridan, Wyo., Cheri Fritzler of Alliance, Lonnie Covalt of Scottsbluff, Neb., and James Covalt of Arthur, Neb.; one stepdaughter, Linda Miller of Garden City, Kan.; one brother, John Covalt; one sister, Elaine Reece of Benson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First Christian Church, Lamont.
