Enid, OK — The funeral for Dorothy Dell Scheer Leslie, 87, of Cherokee, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008, at First Christian Church, Cherokee. Ron Hansen will officiate. Burial will be in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Cherokee. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Carrollton, Ohio, to Clarence Robert and Agnes Elizabeth French Scheer and died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Greenbrier Nursing Home, Enid.
In 1933 she moved with her family to Oklahoma where she attended school, graduating from Centralia High School in 1938. She then attended Draughon School of Business and worked in Tulsa at Hillscrest Hospital, Atlas Electric and Barnsdall Oil Co. She moved to Enid in 1947 and enrolled at Phillips University and worked as a secretary for attorney Will Wright.
She married Wilber J. Leslie April 3, 1948, in Newkirk. They lived in Ingersoll and Cherokee. He died April 15, 1992.
She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Leslie Repair Shop, and later at Cherokee Mill, served as Cherokee city clerk and volunteered at Alfalfa County Hospital and Cherokee Chamber of Commerce. She also served as voting inspector during elections. She was active in Christian Women’s Fellowship, serving in numerous offices, including president, group leader and treasurer. She served as vacation Bible school director and keeper of membership records for her church and attended the Tuesday Morning Bible Study.
Surviving are one son, James Leslie of Enid; two daughters, Louise Leslie of Wellington, Kan., and Virginia Summers of Tulsa; one sister, Lena Alice Daniel of Vinita; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Wilber, she was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church or Campus Crusade for Christ.
