Dorothy Elizabeth Rainey

ENID — Funeral for Dorothy Elizabeth Rainey will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Susan Southall will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dorothy Elizabeth Rainey, 85, died January 28, 2013, at home. She was born January 13, 1928, in Hunter, Oklahoma, to James and Cecilia Balfour.

Dorothy graduated from Hunter High School and Enid Business College. She worked for Continental Oil Co. in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Champlin Exploration, and retired from Cirrus Production Company in Enid March 1, 1998.

In 1985, Dorothy married Jack Eldon Rainey in Enid, Oklahoma.

The couple moved to Lubbock, Texas, in 2008 to be near family and dearly loved their new home. Jack preceded her in death October 31, 2012.

Dorothy was a member of Lakeridge United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Lubbock Women’s Club and current member of several bridge clubs. Dorothy and Jack together enjoyed big band dancing, traveling, horse races, cooking and entertaining. Her love was the beach and the ocean.

Survivors include a daughter, Sally Haliburton and husband Steve of Lubbock; stepdaughters, Jenna Lohringel of Littleton, Colo., and Deborah Rainey-Nelson of Durango, Colo.; stepgrandchildren, Nicholas Nelson and Brent and Kathryn Lohringel; brothers, Andy Balfour and wife Veva and Leon Balfour and wife Wanda; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
