ENID, Okla. —
Hazel Pauline White, age 93 years, of Cherokee, died Oct. 27, 2012, of natural causes. Celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Lanman Chapel in Cherokee with the Rev. John Clapp officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., of Cherokee. Viewing and visitation with family will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Friday. Online memories may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials .com.
Hazel was born June 13, 1919, at her parents’ home in Alfalfa County to David H. and Minnie Gertrude (Erwin) Walker. She graduated from Lambert High School. After graduation she worked at the Wright Law Firm as a secretary until her marriage to Harlan W. White in January, 1939. To this union, two children were born: Judith Sue (White) Greer of Alva and Robert Harlan White of Leawood, Kan. They lived in Lambert before moving to Shelton, Wash., during World War II, where she worked in a plywood plant. After the war, they returned to Alfalfa County, where they farmed until moving to Cherokee in 1981. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cherokee and a member of United Methodist Women. Hazel also taught Sunday school in different Methodist churches. She was a member of Alva Gideon’s International, where she served as secretary and auxiliary chaplin.
Survivors include her children, Judith Sue Greer and husband Eldon, of Alva, and Robert Harlan White and wife Loretta, of Leawood, Kan.; five grandchildren, Diana Sue (Greer) Stein and husband Jimmy Don, of Ardmore, Brenda Dawn (Greer) VanZandt and husband Kelly, of Ponca City, Marek Travis Greer and wife Ginger, of Columbus, Ohio, Danielle Alicia (Greer) Howard and husband Michael, of Lewisville, Texas, and Tanner Walker White of Denver, Colo.; 11 great-grandchildren, Tyler Don Stein of Fate, Texas, and girlfriend Laura McNeal, Marek Payton Stein of Stillwater, Brittany Brooke Holley and husband John, of Alva, Sierra Dawn and Chelsee Nicole Dariann Garner of Ponca City, Caitlin Elizabeth Pauline Greer of Columbus, Ohio, BreAnna Garner of Harlowton, Mont., Holly Graeber and husband Dustin, of Yukon, Ciara Bowlin and husband Jordan, of Chelsea, and Cheyenne VanZandt; four great-great-grandchildren, Kendal, Xavier, Selene, Kenzly; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harlan; two brothers; two sisters and a grandson-in-law, Darren Leon Garner.
Memorials may be made to Gideon’s International or Cherokee First United Methodist Women through the funeral home.
