ENID — Mother

In Loving Memory

Norma Jeanne Mierish Barbour, 90, [May 11, 1922] died in Ormond Beach, Fla., Aug. 3, 2012.

Her husband of 37 years, Col. Alfred E. Barbour “Al,” preceded her in death Sept. 25, 2009. He was interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery Dec. 11, 2009. He has two daughters, Pamela E. Barbour Taylor of Silver Spring, Md., and Sandy S. Barbour Barlow of Melbourne, Fla.

Norma Jeanne and Al retired to Florida from Odenton, Md., and were members of First Presbyterian Church of Daytona Beach and Halifax River Yacht Club.

Norma Jeanne, daughter of Lora May Mierish Canaday [May 22, 1894-Mar 20, 1987] was born and reared in Enid, Okla. Her grandparents, from Enid, were Fred [1854-1934] and Emma E. McClane [1863-1946].

Norma Jeanne worked as a personnel specialist at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., for more than 18 years.

She was a spirited individual, Girl Scout Leader, avid bridge player, good swimmer and an excellent cook who enjoyed entertaining friends and family and traveling with Al. In particular, she loved to garden, arrange flowers and sew. She contributed regularly to many charities. Norma Jeanne had a very generous heart: a heart of gold.

She was buried in Arlington National Cemetery Aug. 27, 2012.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela S. Northcutt, who misses her greatly and prays her soul soars peacefully in heaven. Hope there are Shasta daisies, azaleas, bird of paradise and roses aplenty …
