Aileen Winifred Hardwick, 95, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in Enid, Okla.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Lamont First United Methodist Church. Rev. Vera Walton, pastor, will officiate. All those attending the service are invited to a light luncheon, hosted by the family, following the service. Interment will be in Lamont Cemetery following the luncheon. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Aileen was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Salt Fork, Okla., to Ernest O. and Myrtle Smalley Brewer.
She attended grade school in Salt Fork and the first three years of high school in Lamont. During her high school years, the family moved to Lamont, where her father was the local banker. Her senior year, she transferred to Tonkawa High School, where she graduated in 1933. She continued her education at Northern Oklahoma College, graduating with a business associate’s degree in 1935.
In 1936, Aileen was united in marriage to Archel M. Muegge. To this union, three children were born, Don, Sharon and Susan. In 1962, Archel died of a heart attack.
Immediately after his death, she began working at the State Exchange Bank in Lamont, holding the office of cashier, vice president and president during her banking career.
In 1964, she married Merle Hardwick, the local postmaster, who himself was a widower with three children, Gary, Merlene and Tim.
Aileen retired from the bank in 1982. The couple continued their involvement in the Lamont community with their families, investing much of their time and resources in the work of Lamont First United Methodist Church. Aileen served as church organist for more than 50 years. In addition, she was a member of Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and United Methodist Women.
Aileen was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Myrtle Brewer; her first husband, Archel Muegge; daughter, Sharon Muegge Hall; brother, Eugene O. Brewer; sister, Ernestine Brewer Mendenhall; and half-sister, Ruby Brewer Schug.
Surviving are husband, Merle of the home; Don E. Muegge and wife Bonnie of Lamont; Susan A. Mohler and husband David of Shell Knob, Mo.; Gary Hardwick and wife Gwen of Byers, Colo.; Merlene Hardwick Smith and husband Stan of Stoutland, Mo.; and Tim Hardwick and wife Janice of Altus, Okla. Aileen also is survived by 13 grandchildren, Dea Muegge Rash, Chad Muegge, Clay Muegge, Nancy Hall Hohmann, Mark Hall, Sara Hall Smith, Kevin Mohler, Jason Mohler, Chris Hardwick, Carrie Hardwick Reinhold, Michelle Hardwick Kilgo, Ross Smith and Angie Smith Lasley; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
