Political hysteria

- —

I sometimes get a kick out of sore losers.

And, some of the sorest losers I have ever met in my life have been hard-core politicos. Doesn’t matter what political party they’re from -- and both the Repubs and the Dems have them -- the hysteria when they don’t get their way is often humorous to me.

I admit I skew more conservative in politics.  And, in 2008, my political ideology took a hammering. Many conservative or Republican candidates were booted out, giving the Democrats solid control over everything. And, Barack Obama wasn’t my candidate of choice to win the presidential election. But, I was a good sport, even donning Obama buttons and T-shirts to amuse my liberal friends.

I love a good political discussion, but they’re hard to have in these times. I have a lot of friends who have very different political ideologies than I have, but we can still have good conservation, and even consensus, on a lot of issues.

But, there are some people you just can’t talk politics with. They have no sense of humor and they’re just plain angry.

Even when they win, they’re still angry. And when they lose, they’re REALLY angry.

I’ve seen a lot of anger this past week from the Democrats after Scott Brown pulled an upset over the Democratic candidate for the coveted Ted Kennedy Massachussetts senate seat. You’d think the guy was just elected president instead of senator, the way some in both parties are carrying on.

Some of the hysteria I’ve witnessed this week has been amusing, including one person’s contention that the current stock market decline is because Brown was elected.

What? No one -- and I mean not even the far-left liberal press -- is saying the stock market tanking has anything to do with Brown. It has to do with the president basically declaring war on the banks and on Wall Street in general. Also the uncertainty over whether Ben Bernanke will be re-appointed is taking its toll.

I have had hopes that people could come together to try to solve problems. However, our government -- from the administration all the way to Congress-- has failed miserably in the leadership area. I don’t know if its the type of people that run and get elected, or if its an indictment on our entire generation (babyboomers).

But, all we’ve managed to do in politics is polarize the nation and dig ourselves in instead of putting the long-term view into focus. All we can do well is make jabs at each other.

Oh well, at least the whole thing is good for a few laughs, right?
