The 30-voice Oklahoma Master Chorale will present an “Advent Service of Lessons and Carols” at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.
Chorale members come from a cross-section of central Oklahoma residents and are prominent in their communities as educators, attorneys, executives, professionals, entrepreneurs, parents, grandparents, retirees and college students.
Readers for the lessons are Maxine Austin, Patrick Farrell, Hugh Hairs, Martha Hodgden, Jeff Hume, Sharon Hume, Tary Davis Johnson, Douglas Newell and Carolyn Semrad. Lessons are scriptures that tell the prophecy of the coming of the Messiah and the interspersed carols complement the readings. There will be congregational singing as well.
The event, co-sponsored by St. Matthew’s and Park Avenue Thrift, is being given as a gift to the community to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in the current building.
A reception with the guest artists from the Oklahoma Master Chorale and readers from the community will immediately follow the service in the Parish Hall.
Nursery will be provided. No reservations are necessary and everyone is welcome.
