Marketing professionals come together to consider forming a local network

By Bridget Nash Staff Writer

More than 40 of Enid’s marketing and communications professionals recently attended a meeting to address the need for a professional organization to pool Enid’s resources.

The group gathered at Autry Technology Center Thursday for a meeting organized by Sara Habibi, of Wymer Brownlee, and Tawny Dotson, of t.Public Relations.

“The purpose of this meeting is to kind of brainstorm,” Habibi said.

“The idea is to share what you would like to do as an organization,” Dotson said.

The intent of forming a professional organization made up of marketing and communications professionals is to help keep organizations from seeking agencies in Oklahoma City when contract work for larger projects is needed.

It is hoped, through networking, the group can share skills and areas of expertise while making Enid’s communications resources known to the community and surrounding areas.

“It’s so helpful to have a network of peers to bounce ideas off of,” said Molly Helm, Autry Tech marketing director.

During the meeting those attending were asked what they would like to see come from a marketing and communications professional organization.

Some of the ideas included a centralized calendar that is widely used, professional development with training and speakers, new ideas for reaching out to new groups of people in Enid, ways to draw attention to Enid and its resources and strong communication ties within the group as well as throughout Enid.

The next step toward forming this organization is to create a board.

“What we need is a group of about five people that are interested in being a committee or a board,” Dotson said. “This, unfortunately, doesn’t just fall together.”

Many local businesses were represented by those attending the meeting, including PEGASYS, Autry Tech, Chisholm Trail Broadcasting, Enid Public Schools, Eagle Marketing, Houston Promotions, Wymer Brownlee, Rose Rock Bank, Pioneer Security Systems, Continental Resources and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
