Rank one step in life’s path

Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is not just an award or honor showing the individual Scout’s dedication to years of work and service, it is also a tribute to the adults and other Scouts who have helped on his path of Scouting from Tiger Cub through the rank of Eagle. From activities like sharing life’s wisdom around a campfire, teaching a merit badge class or working together on various community or Scouting projects the knowledge learned in Scouting is taught by adult leaders; yet it is also learned through life’s lessons experienced with your friends in the program. Under adult supervision Scouting allows youth to run the program, teaching them to be leaders in their own right.

Boy Scouts allowed me the opportunity to be a member of Order of the Arrow. While serving in the order I was elected as section chief to represent Oklahoma on national committees, traveled the country assisting others and served as a member of the O.A. staff at a National Boy Scout Jamboree in Fort A.P. Hill, VA.

The Scouting program encourages commitment to study, work to accomplish goals, and give cheerful service. I have many fond memories of my Scouting days in with Troop 15 then Venture Crew 15 both sponsored by St. Gregory the Great Catho-lic Church. The most important part of the Scouting program I carry with me today is all the people I have met. The friends I made in Scouts continue to provide friendship and guidance to me as I make important life decisions including my decision to attend law school here at Oklahoma City University.

It is important to remember earning the rank of Eagle includes the commitment of service to give back not only to the Scouting program as an adult leader but also to your community. The rank of Eagle shows you follow through on commitments. Achievement of the Eagle Scout rank is just one step in the path of life. Some of the path is built upon past ac-complishments, but most of the path is added after achieving the rank of Ea-gle. As an adult I try to follow the example of those who helped me along the trail to Eagle.

My success will be found in helping individuals accomplish their goals in life and contributing to the community where I live.

The Eagle Scout award is an award for the young Scout, but it is also an award to all who helped the Scout achieve the Eagle rank. THANK YOU to everyone who helped me and my fellow Eagle Scouts achieve this award.
