Women join forces to help girls in area

Juliette Low Leadership Society supports Scouting group

Juliette Low Leadership Society of Enid provides a financial and leadership resource for girls of Girl Scouts-Western Oklahoma Inc. in Enid and the surrounding area.

Group members consist of community and business leaders who demonstrate support for Girl Scouts through contributions of time and money. The society serves as a visible advocacy for girls in northwestern Oklahoma.

In 2006, Mary Stallings learned about JLLS in Oklahoma City and believed Enid could support a branch. She brought some women together to see if there was an interest. Myra Ward offered to host the first Juliette Low Leadership Society of Enid Tea, and the society was formed. In two years, JLLS of Enid has double the support for Scouts.

Each year the community is invited to the spring luncheon, which was held in March this year and featured Darcy Sims, a grief management specialist and licensed psychotherapist. The 2010 luncheon will be March 4 at Cherokee Strip Conference Center with Louisa McCune-Elmore, editor of Oklahoma Today magazine, speaking.

Scouting out opportunity

Girl Scouts strives to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place, according to local officials.

The group provides girls with opportunities to have fun while developing decision-making ability, increasing self-esteem and giving back to their communities.

Girl Scouts-Western Oklahoma, Inc. is committed to providing quality service to its membership, according to group leaders.

The group’s pledge is to understand and to meet specific requirements of girls, according to officials.

Girl Scouts will open a branch office in Enid this summer at 319 W. Cherokee.

A local office is being designed with the goal of giving girls in northwest Oklahoma more Scouting opportunities and to provide a more convenient place to obtain uniforms, books, supplies and information.
