Living Word Keenagers members are putting youth back into group

It’s not a youth group, but it is a youthful group.

The Keenagers group at Living Word Fellowship Church is intended for those in the church 55 years and older who want to stay active and connected.

“Right now we’re just meeting on special occasions,” said Clarence Glaze, who began the group four years ago with his wife, Jeanne.

Group members spend time together going to special events and places and holding events of their own.

Glaze said the group has gone to Azalea Festival in Muskogee, a railroad museum and many other places.

“At one time we were meeting once a month,” he said.

Glaze said they meet more frequently in the summer and have watermelon feeds, homemade ice cream socials and games.

“It seems to be successful,” said Glaze.

Keenagers has been successful at finding plenty of things to do as well as creating strong friendships, Glaze said.

“It kind of keeps a connection there and kind of lets people know they are needed and they are important,” he said.

If someone from the group misses a Sunday service or two, another group member will call and make sure everything is all right, said Glaze.

There are about 25 members in the group, and whenever it is needed a special prayer meeting is held. Sometimes special guests are invited to group events to sing.

Keenagers members like to sing, too, and although music constantly changes as time goes on, there are some songs that bring them closer together.

“A lot of them like to sing the old hymns,” said Glaze.

The most important aspect of the group is the strong connections made and the friendships that have developed.

“It’s really just about people,” said Glaze. “It’s really just about connecting.”
