Scott, 95

Marjorie Bennett Scott will celebrate her 95th birthday Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at the Hennessey United Methodist Church Social Center.

She was born Aug. 17, 1917, on a farm southwest of Hennessey to John Ezra and Minnie Croka Bennett.

She attended Victory Country School and graduated from Hennessey High School and Oklahoma Central University, completing her master’s degree at Colorado State University. She also accepted a fellowship at Syracuse University.

Her career in teaching started at Lacy Consolidated School and later Hennessey High School, from which she was a graduate in 1936. At the time of retirement in 1983, she had spent 43 years in the field of education. Her last 20 years were at Lower Merion High School, Ardmore, Pa., near Philadelphia, where she taught English III and IV, speaking arts I and 2, Latin I, and was director of the forensics program. She always was busy with duties in the Methodist Church. In Hennessey, she was active with the Eastern Star, and in the 1940s, she was active with the Hennessey Rebekah Lodge.

Marjorie received her BA degree from Oklahoma Central University in 1939; her MA degree from Colorado State University in Greeley in 1944; her MS from Syracuse University, New York in 1946; and her D.Ed. from Pennsylvania University and Penn State in 1974.

Her children are Beth Morgan, San Antonio; Ben Scott, Ocala, Fla.; and Debbie Downey-Hatch, Pennington, N.J. She has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
