Personal story: God is not finished with me yet - by Thelma Dodd

I was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, and I was 38 years old. It was a shock to me, and I cried, and I did not know how I would tell my family I had cancer. My family and friends and pastors prayed and supported me in my time at surgery and being there beside me all the way through it. I was a very sick person when I started my chemotherapy. I took it for a year and a half, and I was very sick, but I fought it with the help of the Lord. I was thankful for Dr. Walton and the staff at Bass hospital and different ones. I have been cancer-free for nine years, and I pray for anyone who is going through cancer treatment. I know what it is like, and I had some hard decisions to make. I enjoy walking in the cancer walk every year because it is something that is serious. I took four treatments of chemotherapy, and I could not take any more because I did not have a food appetite after I quite chemotherapy. I started gaining weight and feeling a lot better. My mother had breast cancer, and I guess that is where I got it. But, my cancer has not come back, and I am thankful for that, and I believe God healed me of cancer. My heart goes out to anybody with cancer because it is a rough and painful road to go down, but as long as you have faith, and believe, God can heal you. I am thankful my cancer has not returned, and I enjoy my life as I pass away my spare time writing poetry and reading my Christian books and listening to gospel music. I am strong now with the Lord’s help. When I was sick I had a lot of pain and symptoms. I got better over the years. I have learned a lot about cancer and the symptoms of cancer, and I enjoy my life. I believe God is not finished with me yet. I encourage anyone not to give up on fighting it. I was a volunteer for Bass hospital after I had cancer treatment for four years.
