Schoenhals to be honored as Eagle Scout

Ty Schoenhals, a member of Boy Scout Troop 11, will be honored at an Eagle Court of Honor Oct. 26. Schoenhals, 15, is a sophomore at Kremlin-Hillsdale High School and is the son of Dennis and Pam Schoenhals, Kremlin.

Schoenhals joined scouting as a Cub Scout and has achieved their highest award, the Arrow of Light. He has been active in Troop 11 since 2004 and has held several positions and responsibilities including chaplain’s aide, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and senior patrol leader and is a brotherhood member of Order of the Arrow. Schoenhals has participated in extended summer camp experiences at Will Rogers Scout Camp and Camp Tom Hale, both in Oklahoma, as well as Camp Alexander in Lake George, Colo. He is scheduled to attend Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 2009.

Schoenhals plays on the Kremlin-Hillsdale High School football and baseball teams, participates in band, FFA, FCA and varsity academic bowl. For his service project he planned and constructed a covered pavilion over a concrete slab on the Kremlin-Hillsdale Elementary School playground.

Only four percent of Scouts attain scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout. An Eagle Scout must complete 21 merit badges and plan, develop and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to a religious institution, school or community. Boy Scout Troop 11 is sponsored by First United Methodist Church.
