Covington’s Shelton named finalist

Katie Shelton, Covington, was chosen as an Oklahoma state finalist for the National American Miss Oklahoma Junior Teen Pageant held in early June at the Southern Hills Marriott in Tulsa. Shelton is the daughter of Terry and Kathy Golay, Covington, and Rickey and Chasity Shelton, Austin, Texas.

Shelton placed in the top 15 and received awards for best personality, which is the only award voted on by the other contestants; most photogenic, first runner-up; and most promising model, first runner-up.

The National American Miss pageants are dedicated to celebrating America’s greatness and encouraging its future leaders. Each year, the pageant awards thousands in scholarships and prizes to recognize and assist in the development of young women nationwide. All activities are age-appropriate and family oriented.

The pageant program is based on inner beauty, as well as poise and presentation, according to pageant officials. Emphasis is placed on self-confidence, education, competitive attitude and personal goals.

There were 65 contestants in Shelton’s age division and competition was based on formal wear, interview, on-stage introduction and community service. Her escort, Shane Shelton, 4, Ponca City, won best escort. He is the son of Stan and Keri Bowman, Ponca City and Rickey and Chasity Shelton.

Shelton’s sponsors include BB Machine and Supply, Inc.; First Bank and Trust of Covington; Terry and Kathy Golay, Covington; Rickey and Chasity Shelton, Austin; Stan and Keri Bowman, and Bob and Gala Stieber, all of Ponca City; Clyde and Patsy Davis, Bison; Judy and Robert Ritthaler and Bill and Linda Stevens, all of Perry.
