Shire, 80



Loren Dale Shire will celebrate his 80th birthday with a reception for family and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Medford Christian Church.

He was born March 8, 1928, on a farm northeast of Med-ford to Ivan and Aileen Shire. He has lived all his life in the Medford and Jefferson areas, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1947.

He attended A&M; College in Stillwater and served in the Army from November 1950 through November 1952. He was stationed at Camp Carson, Colo. He also served in the Reserves for six years.

He married Joan Adams March 3, 1951. He spent most of his life welding, farming and ranching. He also worked at Enid Livestock Co. for several years and was a rural carrier for Medford Post Office for 19 years, retiring in 2004 for health reasons.

His children are Lorena and Mike Smithheilser, Tonkawa; Ronna and Steve Soper, Medford; Mona and Dave Denney, Pawnee; and Tana Davis and Evan and Sherri Shire, all of Stillwater. He has 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.





Vaverka, 90



Helen Hajek Vaverka will celebrate her 90th birthday with a reception for family and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. March 16 at St. Jo-seph’s Cath-olic Parish, Hennessey.

She was born March 18, 1918, in Goltry to Frank and Anna Pipla Hajek. She moved with her family to Hennessey when she was 10. She lived in Hennessey until she married.

She married Rudolf “Rudy” Vaverka Feb. 3, 1943. She continues to live on the farm where they farmed all their married life. He is now deceased.

She worked at Snyders 5 & 10 for five years and is an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hennessey, where she helps with bereavement dinners. She also is a member of No. 1 Oklahoma Polka Club and has served more than 35 years on Kingfisher County Election Board.

Her children are Mary Hladik, Douglas; Larry Vaverka, Hennessey; Carol Chermack, Waukomis; and Pat Brooks, Enid. She has a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.





Hill, 80



Virginia Lee Hill celebrated her 80th birthday with a surprise party for family and friends March 1 at Ramada Inn Banquet Room. Cards may be sent to P.O. Box 232, Drum-mond, OK 73735.

She was born March 6, 1928, northwest of Drummond to Norval and Alice Buckminster, the oldest of eight children.

She attended Spencer Elementary School and graduated from Drummond High School.

She married Chelsea Hill July 31, 1947. They made their home on a farm south of Drummond.

She worked on the farm and at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center for several years and is a member of Salem Methodist Church in Drummond.

Her children are Kolleen and Curt Hill, Drummond. She has three grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-stepgrandchildren.





Thompson, 99



Nellie Thompson will celebrate her 99th birthday with family. Cards may be sent to 502 S. Lincoln, Enid, OK 73703.

She was born March 11, 1909, in Carmen to Patrick and Mary McGuar. She married J.W. Thompson Aug. 19, 1927. He died in 1971.

She married Irvin Driskell in 1976. He died in 1982.

She owned rental properties and operated the apartments at 1201 E. Broadway for 30 years.

Her daughter is the late Dorothy O’Neill. She has four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.





Siewert, 95



Ilo Siewert will celebrate her 95th birthday with a family dinner March 14. Cards may be sent to Burgundy Place, 1600 W. Willow Road, No. 303, Enid, OK 73703.

She was born March 14, 1913, in Glencoe, Minn., to William and Anna Jungclaus.

She graduated from Glen-coe High School and married Carl Siewert. He died in 1996. She is a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church in Glencoe and worked in admissions and discharges at Glencoe Hospital. She was an active member of Women’s Mis-sionary Society and Amer-ican Legion Auxiliary. She has attended Redeemer Lutheran Church since she moved to Enid in 2002.

Her children are Wendell and Mavis Siewert, Enid, and Sheldon and Joy Siewert of Florence, Oregon. She has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.



Foster, 88



Dorthy Foster will celebrate her 88th birthday with a reception for family and friends at 2 p.m. Saturday at Great Plains Care Center, 200 W. Third, Helena.

She was born March 10, 1920, in Cambridge, Neb.

She worked at Enid State School for 24 years, retiring in 1980.

Her children are Bobby Joe and Nina Foster, Bison; Joan Jones, Marysville, Calif.; Zola VanBuskik, Enid; Barbara Moore, Harvey and Pat Foster and Debbie Foster, all of Ringwood; Wanda Failes, Augusta, Kan.; Jack and Carol Foster, Canton; and Sharon and Billy Marin, Boyd, Texas. She has 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
