Gower, 95
Adeline Gower will celebrate her 95th birthday with a reception for family and friends 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Helena First United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall. She requests no gifts, but cards may be sent to RR1, Box 54, Helena, OK 73741.
She was born Jan. 13, 1911, in Kennard, Neb. She attended first through eighth grade at Toothpick Country School, Helena. She is a 1928 graduate of Helena High School and a 1935 graduate of Oklahoma A&M; with a lifetime elementary teaching certificate. She taught at Timberview Country School one year.
She married Glen Gower May 1, 1936. They lived in Tulsa and Norman before moving to Helena in 1952. She cooked at Helena Nursing Home for nine years.
She is a member of Helena First United Methodist Church and Helena Senior Citizens Center. She is a quilter.
Her children are Marguerite and Ronal McMurtrey, Cherokee; Glenda and James Brown and Diana Whitfield, all of Austin, Texas; and Betty and John Collins, Caney, Kan. She has eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
