Mr. and Mrs. Leon Koons will celebrate their 70th anniversary with a reception for family and friends 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in the Chisholm Trail Room at Cherokee Strip Conference Center. Cards may be sent to 2901 Robin Ridge, Enid, OK 73703.
Leon Koons and Catherine Patton were married Aug. 3, 1942, in Medicine Lodge, Kan.
Leon was inducted into the Army in 1944, serving with Patton’s Army until he returned to the states on Feb. 14, 1946, where they farmed the Patton place.
Leon also worked at Union Equity Elevator and later Superior Truck Stop for 34 years, where he was manager for Don Pounds and later Winston Lugar, retiring in 1990.
Catherine is a homemaker and did the bookkeeping for her husband at Superior Truck Stop, where she also was the “gofer.”
Catherine studied music at Phillips University. She taught piano and organ and played organ at several Enid churches.
The couple retired in 1990 to spend their winters in South Texas. They are members of Liberty Southern Baptist Church.
Their children are Harold and Mary Ann Koons, Colony; Barry Koons, Hulbert, Okla.; Elgin and Sheila Koons, Blanchard; and Kate Koons, Austin, Texas. They have 10 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
