Conservation assistance funds are available

Garfield County Conser-vation District has funds available for cost-share assistance on selected conservation practices benefiting soil and water conservation.

The state has provided limited funds to the district to help landowners implement measures that protect soil and water resources.

“The great advantage of the Conservation Cost-Share Program for Okla-homa is that it is a locally led program,” said Mike Thralls, executive director of Oklahoma Conservation Commission. “Each local conservation district, with input from local residents and agricultural producers, selects which of the available conservation practices to provide assistance on, based on their local natural resource issues.”

Conservation practices available for cost-share assistance through the Garfield County Conserv-ation District include terraces, waterways and grass plantings. The percentage of cost-share has been set at 75 percent of the approved list. Those making application must own or operate at least 20 acres and profit $1,000 in soil-dependent products from the land each year.

The district will accept applications through Nov. 30.

For information contact Garfield County Conserv-ation District at 237-7880. The district office is at 1216 W. Willow, Suite D, and hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
