Delayed conservation tillage workshop is Thursday

ENID — Due to the recent winter storm, the fifth annual Conservation Tillage 101 Workshop was postponed.

Garfield County Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, in cooperation with Garfield County Soil Conservation District and Natural Resources Conservation Service, will conduct the workshop at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The workshop will be at Chisholm Trail Pavilion on the Garfield County Fairgrounds.

This program will focus on a variety of timely agronomic topics involving conservation tillage practices. Agriculture producers, certified crop advisers and commercial applicators should all find benefits from attending this year’s workshop. CCA’s may obtain up to 6 continuing education units free for attending the workshop. Commercial applicators will obtain one CEU credit through the ODAFF by attending the workshop.

Garfield County Conservation District and NRCS will conduct their annual locally lead meeting to identify the priorities of conservation concerns in Garfield County. These will be presented to state officials later in the year to determine Oklahoma conservation priority areas.

Additionally, Garfield County Conser-vation District and NRCS officials will present information regarding conservation programs provided for in the current farm bill and the procedures necessary for producers and landowners to apply and potentially qualify for these cost share programs.

There are many local and area sponsors for the Conservation Tillage 101 Workshop. Their sponsorship will provide participants with refreshments throughout the day, lunch and printed materials that will be provided. No registration fee is required. However, to prepare for lunch, refreshments and handout materials, reservations are needed by Monday.

Contact Garfield County OCES at 237-1228 or Garfield County Conservation District at 237-7880.
