Farmers Royalty, OACD to sponsor contests

As part of their continuing commitment to youths in Oklahoma and the conservation of our state’s natural resources, Farmers Royalty Co. and Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts have announced they will partner in presenting the Farmers Royalty Conservation Youth Awards.

These awards will go to the winners of the OACD poster, essay and speech contests at the district and state level. Last year, more than 1,000 students from throughout Oklahoma participated in these contests.

“We are honored to once again have Farmers Royalty Co. as a partner in recognizing the outstanding achievements of our states youth,” Joe Parker, OACD president, said. “These students work hard in preparing their speeches, posters and essays. The support of Farmers Royalty Co. gives us a chance to better recognize their achievements.”

Open to students from all areas of Oklahoma, the Farmers Royalty/OACD Youth Conservation Contests include categories for high school and grade school students. Contestants research the conservation topic chosen each year and then write essays, develop speeches or create posters to expand on the conservation theme for that year.

“It is a great pleasure for Farmers Royalty Co. to partner with OACD to promote Education of Conservation of our natural resources with the youth of our state,” said Hal Clark, chairman of the board for Farmers Royalty and also a member of Cimarron County Conservation District. “I am also excited to honor the legacy of Vernon McNally with this partnership. Vernon was a great conservationist and also a promoter of education for our youth.”

Farmers Royalty was established in 1929 as an Oklahoma oil and gas cooperative company owning and managing minerals across the state. The company has continued to grow and owns mineral interests in 14 states. The company still retains the cooperative base in its by-laws and pays dividends to its shareholders.

“This is a great partnership, Farmers Royalty Co. and OACD,” said Clay Pope, executive director of OACD. “By sponsoring these awards, Farmers Royalty Co. is helping us recognize the youth of our state and encouraging our students to have a better appreciation for our natural resources. Farmers Royalty Co. is truly committed to helping the next generation of Oklahomans conserve and protect our soil, water, air and wildlife habitats.”
