More than 100 4-H youths from 12 northwest Oklahoma counties recently participated in the 4-H Division of the Enid Northwest District Juniort Livestock Judging Contest.
There were 90 junior individuals, youths 9-13, with 21 teams and 14 senior individuals, youths 14-19, with three teams. They competeed for both team and individual awards sponsored by Enid Packing Co.
The event was sponsored by Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce as part of Northwest Distict Junior Livestock Show to be March 4-8. A meats judging contest will be April 16 and also is a part of the NWDJLS.
“Youth who are involved in livestock judging learn and practice life skills such as decision making, cooperation and public speaking, as well as applying their knowledge of livestock,” said Kevin Hackett, N.W. District 4-H program specialist. “As a part of the contest they judged three classes each of beef, sheep and swine and went on to defend their placing by giving oral reasons on one class each of beef, sheep and swine.”

First place, Kay County (Kacey Kincaid, Madison Smith and Tyler Fast); second place, Noble County (Tanner Neely, colin Ring, Bradley Cross and Lane Lions); third place, Woods County (Colton Budy, Logan Merriwether, Josiah Darr and Curin Olson); fourth place, Woods County (Logan Holt, Jentrey Lancaster, Tatum Honer and Julie Owen); fifth place, Garfield County (Emiley Shell, Morgan Messall and Hayden Ransom); sixth place, Garfield County (Kylee Hack, Grabriella Curtuzzula and Libby Bo-oze); seventh place, Major County (Stetson DeHaas, Mason Body, Curry Kirch-ner and Mikaili Williams); eighth place, Grant County (Molly Blaser, Madison Hembree, Brfyan Durham and Dovie Yarbrough); ninth place, Noble County (Jaclyn McCormick, Kam-ryn Williams and Elizabeth Haley); and 10th place, Woodward County (Hunter Miller, Justice Barnett, Hayes Maher and Logan Maher).
